Psychologically informed environments from the ground up : Service design for complex needs

From the Preface:

This book is intended as an introduction to the world of ‘psychologically informed environments' – PIEs – an idea, and a whole new way of thinking about the work of services for people with complex needs.

PIEs come in all shapes and sizes, many and varied – and this can cause some confusion when people come new to the idea – even more so when they find they are now expected to ‘be’ one, but with little indication of what that is to mean, in any given context or service.

This book aims to dispel some of that confusion, by going first to the heart and spirit of the creative work being done already by many services in meeting sometimes very complex psychological and emotional needs.

Only then do we get on to the framework of ideas that we have developed, trying to capture, spread and encourage that constructive engagement; and the Pizazz, and the software version, the PIE Abacus.
